Review, Reorganize, Simplify.
As we wonder when this Covid 19 situation will end and we can reopen our businesses again, I made a list of money saving, profit boosting things to do while in lock down. As well as some tidbits from Microsoft Teams/Google Meet/Zoom meetings!
Reviewing Payroll Companies:
Sometime saving folks hundreds of dollars per payroll… Its all about service and cost. Let me introduce you to Heartland Payroll (or another company) . (Heartland offers Payroll FREE for the first 90 DAYS)
Reviewing Credit Card Companies:
EVEN if your brother does your credit card processing, find out what you could save by switching. Its free! You will know where you stand. Email your February statements to [email protected]
Reduce Your Menu:
Large food menu? Take this opportunity to reduce your menu. Faster prep time, reduced food cost, less training, less stock = More Profit.
I have never left a bar because they don’t have my preferred brand Tanqueray Ten!! Downtown NYC bars are only stocking a few brands to increase turnover and buying power. Now is the time!
Set Up Take Out and Delivery on your POS:
Even if you are a restaurant or bar and/or don’t plan to do pick up, most POS companies are opening this up for free for at least a limited time.
Maitre’d is giving it away for free….
Heartland Restaurant is offering 90 days free – 15-20 item setup. Just bring an iPad.
Set up Online Ordering on your Website:
Online ordering companies are also offering all kinds of deals, no setup, 90 days free, etc. These smaller companies are usually fixed monthly fees vs giant percentages of the big players. Some offer solutions that integrate with the POS system and drop the orders into the system where they print in the kitchen automatically. No mistakes, no employee action required other the cooking, full reporting and reduced labor cost.
Gift Cards:
Restaurants are printing plastic re usable card with “Employee Fund” on them. Anything to get cash in the door right now. Also offer a bonus if you can. Spend $100 on a gift card now and we give you a 25% bonus!
Maintenance:
Windows updates/Archive Smaller databases/ take a backup reprogram those buttons on the POS system…. now is the time!
Some other things to think about:
Planning to reopen: How can you cope with opening at 25% of your seating??
Alaska restaurants open at 25% capacity, Oklahoma reopens but Bars however, will still be closed. Table turnover, kerbside pickup, reduced headcount?
Please Google,
WARN employment act if you have more that 100 employees in one location – You have to notify them.
and
Shared Work Program. Employees can work and be paid by you for 60% of regular hours, plus $600, plus regular unemployment benefits. Crazy!
Incentivize employees to come back to work:
For tipped employees, offer Minimum wage instead of tip wage to incentivize them to come back.
Offer additional “Appreciation” pay.
Commission on Sales?
Stay Safe!
